The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department made the largest marijuana bust in department history after a routine traffic netted 25,000 pounds. A patrol officer pulled over a 18-wheel truck on northbound Interstate 15 near Temecula, California for an illegal lane change. A subsequent search of the trailer uncovered boxes of marijuana from front to back. The driver of the truck, an unidentified adult male, was taken into custody by the DEA.
Police estimated the bust at $10 million wholesale and $25 million street value.

Three men broke into a suspected grow house in Kerman, California then allegedly shot and killed a couple in their 60s. The house was under surveillance by drug investigators from the Sheriff’s Office at the time of the killings. A police lookout spotted the three men get out of a Chrysler 300 driven by a female and enter the house. Seconds later a frantic 911 call was made from a male in the home saying his wife had just been murdered. The police lookout then saw the suspects run from the house less than a minute after entering. Police chased the suspects car which later crashed into another vehicle and resulting in 4 arrests. Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators have arrested two people after busting a “pot canyon” containing 7,621 marijuana plants. The garden was hidden with overgrown vegetation and was found in Sycamore Canyon near Diamond Bar, California 25 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Deputies arrested 33-year-old Francisco Rios and 31-year-old Brigido Ambriz near the garden for possession of a loaded and concealed firearm. Police believe the two are connected but say charges will depend on how much evidence ties them directly to the marijuana. Deputies would not disclose how they found out about the garden, only saying that they had been investigating the case for about a month.
A Navy second-class midshipman at the U.S Naval Academy has been arrested after allegedly bringing 150 pounds of marijuana into the U.S from Mexico. The yet to be named 24-year-old is currently being held in San Diego while the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) investigates.
The word “alameda” means “a place where poplar trees grow”; which was kind of the case when Alameda County Sheriffs discovered 24 gardens containing over 22,000 marijuana plants in a rural area of the county near the community of Sunol. The discovery was the biggest outdoor growing operation the Sheriff’s office has ever encountered. It all started after a motorist told police they saw a teenager wearing camouflage clothes run up a creek bed.
